Web designers, much akin to other artists of the fine arts, impart a construction to the environment. A designer gathers distinct ideas and uses them to populate the empty canvas of a blank computer screen into something that appeals and engages to the viewer. The exact dynamics of this process are however influenced by a myriad of externalities – the designer’s aesthetic sense being the paramount among them. The other factors include the idea or value that the design represents, its functional character and most importantly the audience that it would address. Over years this process has been studied and the learning distilled into several broad design principles – which at BSC represent the holistic combination of the design experience and learning of the BSC design team.
Here are a few of the design principles that our design team leverages to attain the perfection in form and function, which is the quintessential part of every successful design:
“Things clubbed together - more so in the image sense, should represent similar things – either functionally or in terms of the thoughts (i.e. they should have a higher relational connection between them)”
“The rounded corners, borders, gradient color scheme, and resulting perception of three dimensional depths, set the button apart from its surroundings, leading the viewer to identify this as “something set apart” – thus, inviting the user to utilize it as something that can be activated.
“Symmetry is aesthetically pleasing (generally).”
“The visual center of any page/image is just slightly above and to the right of the actual (geometrical) center. This is perceived to be the natural placement of visual focus, and is also sometimes referred to as museum height.”
These examples relate some of the simple design principles (with their associated corollaries) that are leveraged by the BSC design team while developing and designing solutions for our clients. And like all things BSC, these principles are dynamic and on the cutting edge – representing the Best Available Techniques (BATs) of the industry.
